Interview, knitting, and CROCHET!

Had my RVC interview on Wednesday! At the moment I’m thinking I probably haven’t got in, but it depends on how everyone else did I think. Some of the stations were really good and others were really bad :( The RVC are interviewing until the 21st March, so I won’t hear anything until after then. It seems so loooong to wait!

Even though the interview wasn’t amazing it was nice looking around the campus. I have been to the Hawkshead campus on an open day but I hadn’t visited Camden campus before. There is a little anatomy museum inside which is really cool; lots of skeletons and pickled animal parts! Some of the skeletons spilled over into the cafe as well. I was sitting in there waiting for my interview next to an elephant skeleton which was pretty cool.

If I get in I had been planning on travelling in every day since it’s not that far, but now I kind of want to live in halls again, lol. I didn’t really like living in halls at Nottingham but the RVC ones seem really nice and they are just 2 minutes from the uni building which would be nice (instead of being a 2 hour bus journey away).

Moving away from interview-speak: I have knit this!

Isn’t it cute? It is a bed bug from this book that I mentioned a few posts ago. I did make him a hat like the example in the book but it didn’t fit him very well :( Think it needs some larger needles.

Two bedbugs together
Ooh, also I tried crochet. I think the yarn I have is a bit thick for my hook size (I only have two hooks at the moment and they’re both quite small) but it didn’t turn out as badly as I expected. At first I wanted to go running back to the knitting needles but after a while I decided it wasn’t so bad. I haven’t attempted an actual pattern yet, I think I will get some better sized hooks first. I look forward to trying some amigurumi patterns though.

This picture isn’t of my very first attempt (which I seem to have lost) but is just some single crochet practice:

 Bye for now!

My bed is being taken over

Recently I have been waking up to find this on my pillow:

You may notice that there is not much room left for me. He has worked out how to start off by curling up on one corner of the pillow and then gradually stretching out to push me off. Maybe I should just move him, but would you want to disturb this little sleepy face?

(Why yes, I am just putting off revision/interview prep)

(Belated) Happy New Year!

The new year is going well so far! I have heard back from the Royal Vet College and I have an interview at the end of the month :D I’m pretty nervous (actually really super nervous) but I’m hoping I can at least do ok and not embarrass myself. An offer afterwards would be amazing but I don’t want to get my hopes up too much!

I had a call from St Tiggywinkles this morning to go on my first proper rescue for a goose that is caught in some fishing line. Unfortunately the goose flew off before I arrived; the people who called it in had been feeding it bread to make it stay nearby but it eventually decided it had had enough! If it returns I might go out in the morning to try again. Fingers crossed he will be caught safely and make it to the wildlife hospital.

I have finished my job at Past Times which was sad but at least now I have time to concentrate on exam revision and interview preparation. On the closing day for the last half an hour or so everything was reduced to £1 :o so I got a few bargains including this book which has some amaaazing photos, and a few gifts for people which I won’t mention because I haven’t given them to them yet (and I probably shouldn’t have said that because now they will know they only cost £1!).

In other news, Charlie the cat is in disgrace after the theft of a joint of beef bigger than his head that was intended for next day's dinner. It was stolen from the kitchen counter and chewed to a mushy pulp within seconds. He maintains his innocence...

Bye for now!

Progress!

Since I last wrote, I have sent off my university application and managed to find a job, yay!

I am working in the gift shop Past Times which sells some cool stuff (or I think so anyway). It has gone pretty well so far, but I don’t get paid until the end of November which is a pain :(

College is going ok, and it has been half term this week which is weird because it feels like we only just started! What is the point of half term, really? It has given me more time to work in the shop and earn monies anyway which is good.

I have done a few more training sessions at St Tiggywinkles and moved on to larger animals now. The foxes and badgers are fine (although the ones I have been practising on so far have been pretty flat) but I was having trouble with the deer. I have decided that the bigger deer are too heavy for me to lift on my own (about 30kg, and kicking) so I will just pin them to the floor and get someone else to help me lift them :D

I went to see Contagion the other day which I thought looked pretty good. I went with my mum (cause I’m cool like that) cause plague/disease-y type films are our favourite. I quite liked it and it seemed really realistic compared to something like The Stand where everyone except a few particularly interesting characters die off. One thing that annoyed me though was the overuse of technical jargon one minute and the patronising explanation of simple concepts the next. People who work in disease research are not going to explain lock and key mechanisms to their equally knowledgeable colleagues! Anyway, I think it was worth seeing but maybe not at the cinema (although we went on a cheap night so that was ok :) ).

I am annoyed at the lack of horror movies in cinemas now we are so close to Halloween. They are my favourite part of the holiday! Except maybe the sweets.

I know I said in my last entry that I’d try to have something interesting to write about this time but that has failed :( Have a picture of a kitty instead.

(I’ll try again next time)

Back home!

I left Nottingham for what is probably the last time on Thursday. It's quite strange!
It's nice being back home, although I am noticing the distinct lack of space. Particularly bed space. I have gone from having a double bed all to myself to sharing a small single bed with two cats. My room at home is about half the size of my uni room too, and I seem to have accumulated quite a lot of stuff over the past two years... I think it may be time for a clear out.

I was supposed to be starting work experience at a kennels tomorrow but they have moved it to next week which is kind of annoying. It's probably better though. It means I have more time to unpack and also means I have this Thursday free, which is when Josie puddy tat is having a toof out :( :( I know it's fairly routine but my pets going under GA always makes me nervous, lol. Jo is also a very stressy cat. She will not appreciate spending a day at the vets. It's the first time she's been away from home for that long since her spay nearly 10 years ago :(

Aaanyway, that's about it for now. The next update will probably be a continued account of my Panama/Costa Rica trip. Or maybe about some of my other work experience, we'll see.

Bye for now!

Horses, Soap and Cats.

The weather has been wooonderful for the past few days, although it did rain a little this afternoon.

I went to see the play War Horse in London on Thursday. It was a Christmas present to my nan. The show was completely booked up from Christmas so they were the earliest tickets we could get! So it ended up being a rather late Christmas present but oh well.

The play was really good and I was quite amazed by the puppets. They moved like real animals! It was quite sad though and I didn't realise quite how many horses were used in WW1. Apprently 1 million went over to France and only 62k came back. The ones that didn't die in combat were probably made into burgers :|

Other than that I have been spending silly amounts of time sitting in the sun and trying to do work. Went to Hobbycraft with some friends yesterday. I managed not to buy anything, so I am proud of myself! Kirsty is trying to find a new hobby and has made her first foray into soap-making!

Have also been trying to sort out some work experience for over summer. I have had a few 'no's but one kennel and cattery have said 'yes' :) So I need to sort out some dates for that. I have been depressing myself by looking at jobs and also looking into studying Chemistry A level again. It nearly killed me last time but I think I could get an A if I did it again.

Ooh, and it was Charlie's birthday on Saturday! He is one year old already.
Here is a picture of him at 18 days old with tiny ear nubblets:

Aaand this is him now, looking like a proper cat:

So I think that's all for now! I'm proud I have managed to keep this blog alive for over a week now :D

Home for Easter!

So it looks like I'm not going to manage to update this every day. I'll aim for every few days instead!

Not that much to write about really. Had quite a busy day today. This morning I got up early to go over to an animal rescue I help out at on Sundays. Cuddled some bunnies and walked some dogs for a few hours. Theeen I went straight from there to my Nan's house due to it being Mother's Day and my mum going up to visit her. Had a rather gooood roast dinner *drool*

Theeen drove from there home. I am staying home for a few weeks for the Easter holidays. Is good to see my animals again :) Josie is currently purring on my lap.
This is Josie:

I'm not supposed to have favourites but she is my favourite :) Even though she is rather stumpy for a cat, and super grumpy.

Oooh, also I got a fancy new phone. It's not really a super good one but I don't really follow all the new gadget-y things so it's quite exciting to me, lol. I can use Facebook on it and everything :)

Sooo that's about it! I'll try to write again soon. I'm sure Kirsty will remind me.
